ABOUT STORYTELLING SESSIONS AND WORKSHOPS IN THE YURT AT THE YARD - A CREATIVE SPACE FOR CHILDREN

StormFest Storytelling in the Yurt at the Yard: a comprehensive programme of storytelling during Kilkenny Arts Festival that represents a diverse range of artists. Worlds of wonder will be conjured in the Yurt at the Yard, a purpose-built tent in the Castle Yard courtesy of Creative Ireland and Kilkenny Arts Festival. There will also be a chance to hone or test your skills with a number of Storytelling Workshops from the masters. All storytelling session are €5 per person

Niall de Búrca: Tale Telling with Niall de Búrca

Niall is one of Ireland’s finest traditional storytellers. He has featured in theatre, radio and at many festivals including Féile Earrai, the CS Lewis Festival, and The National Children’s Book Festival. Internationally he has performed and held workshops in countries as diverse as Poland, Argentina, Italy and The Netherlands.

Helena Byrne: Fairy Folk of Ireland

Combining her love of Irish folklore and passion for Irish music, Helena’s storytelling interweaves tales of the Other World and the mysterious Fairy Folk with traditional Irish songs and wonderful insights into the Irish life of days gone by. Whatever your age, Helena will bring your imagination alive with the fascinating worlds of the Banshee, the Pooka and the supernatural, while emulating the traditional Irish sing-song.

Simone Schuemmelfeder: Family Storytelling Session with Riddles and Fun

Simone is a storyteller and writer from Germany who loves to enchant her audience with little-known fairy tales and folklore from around the world. She grew up near the “Fairy Tale Road” in Germany that connects the castle of Sleeping Beauty with Hansel and Gretel’s dark forest and many more places we know from the old tales. The magic and wonder of these places can be felt in her interactive and engaging storytelling sessions for the whole family.

Nuala Hayes: Legends, Myths and Downright Lies

Nuala is an actor, storyteller and broadcaster, who was founder and director of Scéalta Shamhna, Dublin’s Storytelling Festival. She also founded Two Chairs Company with musician Ellen Cranitch to explore words and music in performance including Irish Legends, Myths and Folklore.  She is the author of Laois Folk Tales, published by The History Press Ireland.

Liz Weir: Stories from Here, There and Everywhere

Join storyteller, seanchaí and writer Liz Weir stories from around the world with lots of participation, raps and rhymes. She is the author of two story collections - Here There and Everywhere and Boom Chicka Boom, as well as a picture book - When Dad Was Away. Formally children’s librarian for the city of Belfast, she now travels the world sharing her stories with people of all ages.
