ABOUT SQUARE ONE PRESENTS THE CRUCIBLE

The Crucible was written in 1953 by the American playwright Arthur Miller. It is a dramatised and partially fictionalised story of the infamous Salem witch trials, which took place in the Massachusetts Bay Colony between 1692 and 1693. It was inspired by the 1950’s McCarthy hearings that aimed to root out communists in the USA. This play continues to affect audiences by allowing them to see how dark desires and hidden agendas can be played out.
