The Arts Council

Companies

Ballet Ireland was established in 1998 by Gunther Falusy and Anne Maher. The company’s inaugural performances were given at the Gaiety Theatre in October that year. Each spring and autumn the company tours the country, performing everywhere from large scale theatres in Dublin, to provincial venues nationwide. These performances create memorable experiences for these audience members who would otherwise not have the opportunity to see professional ballet. The tours are also a prime opportunity for the company to re-connect with their loyal audience, as well as inspire young and talented students. Ballet Ireland is working to develop a full-time classical ballet company of the highest quality, with a wide-ranging repertoire of international standard, which promotes an appreciation of ballet amongst people of all ages and backgrounds and generates a significant audience for performances on both national and international stages. In recent years the company has focussed on developing new, innovative narrative work and has become known for attracting a particularly rare calibre of dancer, one that is classically trained yet able to be actively involved in the creative process. Ballet Ireland is committed to cultivating the talent and audiences of the future. The Education Programme facilitates workshops in primary and secondary schools, both for those with and without formal training.
