The Arts Council

Companies

Fíbín is Ireland’s largest and most active Irish-language Theatre company. We stage new and classic Irish writing in a creative way and in a unique style. To date Fíbín has produced over 40 productions for children at primary, secondary and third level.

In 2013 Fíbín reached their 10th anniversary milestone and are the largest Irish-language employer in the Arts sector. The company collaborates with new and exciting directors, artists, and venues to make their unique style of work. Fíbín was the first Gaeltacht-based company to be invited to produce a play, Sétanta by Paul Mercier, with our National Theatre, the Abbey in over 25 years.

2016 was an extremely busy year for Fíbín productions and this year is no exception.  Pearse in Pictures toured non-stop at home and abroad during 2016. It has been seen by an audience of more than 3,500 people to date! Stephen Darcy wrote and directed Stair Wars for Irish college students as part of the 1916 centenary celebrations and it was seen by more than 5,000 young people on courses in the Gaeltacht last summer. Fíbín’s nationwide tour of the Leaving Cert play An Triail sold out in most venues again last year. Fíbín worked with the reknowned actor and director Mikel Murfi on a new production Tóraíocht that was staged in the Black Box Theatre in Galway last November. 2017 kicked off with a co-production of Clann Lir with Erris Arts Centre as part of the Seachtain na Gaeilge celebrations across the country. Fíbín are currently working on a new production Pléasc to be performed as part of a community commemorative event this year. Fíbín will tour with An Triail again in the Autumn.

Fíbín is famed for its innovative and unique aesthetics, with a physicality in performance that breaks through language barriers. Their approach to theatre encompasses many different influences, from puppetry to mime to masks to multi-media. Fíbín tours nationally and internationally at least once a year and has performed in Britain, Europe, the US, Canada and Africa to date. Fibín is the biggest Irish-language educational company in Ireland and the most frequently touring Irish-language theatre company.

We continue to widen our audience base and by placing theatre as Gaeilge centre-stage we are ensuring its future.

Dhíol camchuairt náisiúnta An Triail amach i nach mór gach ionad arís anuraith.  D’oibrigh Fíbín ar léiriúcháin nua Tóraíocht, a scríobh Philip Doherty agus a stiúir an t-aisteoir agus an stiúrthóir cáiliúil Mikel Murfi. Léiríodh Tóraíocht ar stáitse sa Dubhlann i nGaillimh i mí na Samhna 2016.
