Bruiser Theatre Company is Northern Ireland’s foremost physical theatre company, producing high quality theatre that excites and stimulates audiences. Committed to nurturing the next generation of drama professionals, we inspire and encourage young actors and theatre makers through our unique education projects. Our impact extends across the proscenium arch and through the theatre doors, as we use drama as a mechanism for creating positive social change in local communities.
Since our inception in 1997, we’ve brought accessible and stimulating theatre to every corner of Ireland, North and South. Our unique physical brand has established us as a firm favourite across the island, as we refresh existing texts into vivid and relevant productions for the 21st Century. Our continued collaborations with Belfast’s The MAC and Lyric Theatre has furthered the scope of our work, creating West-End quality shows in Northern Ireland such as: Cabaret (The MAC, 2014), The 39 Steps (Lyric Theatre, 2016), The Importance of Being Earnest (The MAC, 2017), and The Colleen Bawn (Lyric Theatre, 2018).
Education and outreach work has always been at the core of what we do. All productions are accompanied by resource packs and workshops for schools. Our A Day With Bruiser study day gives students across the country the opportunity to engage in exciting, immersive physical theatre workshops to further their understanding of our craft and approach. This course was established in direct response to Bruiser’s inclusion on the CCEA, AQA, and EDEXCEL GCSE – A Level exam syllabuses, and our position as a corner-stone of the provision of Drama education in Northern Ireland.
Outside of a school setting, we provide intensive professional development opportunities for young actors through The Arts Academy and Graduate Academy courses, in association with The MAC. These ten-day training courses provide vital training in physical theatre, voice, and dance, while fostering professional relationships within the sector. This wrap-round support enables many of our alumni to progress to Drama School, gaining representation, and their first professional performance opportunities.
