Gúna Nua Theatre was founded in 1998. Since that time it has become one of Ireland's leading independent theatre companies, with a reputation for innovative, accessible, quality work. Gúna Nua has at its core the following principles: to create new work for the stage; to develop a working method which enables the full involvement of theatre practitioners from different disciplines at the earliest possible stage in the play-making process; to use this working method for the creation of new work, and to adapt this working method for the theatrical production of existing texts; to use modern theatre techniques to bring a vibrant, dynamic and, above all, entertaining form of storytelling to the stage; to achieve excellence in performance through intelligence, integrity and passion; to produce work which is contemporary in thinking and which reflects the concerns and interests of the times, in order to attract a new theatre-going audience.

Touring Policy

Gúna Nua is committed to touring nationally and internationally and to establishing relationships with practitioners and organisations throughout Ireland and abroad. The company has toured in Ireland, the UK, the U.S.A., Australia and had its work produced in France, Romania and Serbia.

Gúna Nua co-production partners have included the axis:Ballymun, Civic, Lane Productions, Origin Theatre, Plan B Productions, The Irish Cancer Society and Focus Ireland.
