Companies

Since its formation in 2001, Catastrophe has made a name for itself with darkly comic original scripts and a physically engaging acting style. As well as numerous performances in Galway, including 6 shows at the Galway Arts festival, Catastrophe has made its way to many other venues around Ireland including the Abslout Fringe Festival and Waterford Spraoi. Catastrophe was formed in June 2001 and has staged 17 successful shows in Galway and on tour. A combination of sharp, witty writing and an energetic physicality gives Catastrophe its own unique style of dark comedy. The company’s three founder members met while studying for a Masters Degree in Theatre and Drama Studies at NUI. As well as numerous pieces of new writing for the stage, Catastrophe has focused on site-specific shows in recent years. These have included productions in yards, car parks, offices, pubs, churches and restaurants. Catastrophe has toured nationally particularly to festivals due to the site-specific nature of the company’s work.

Most recent productions: A Midsummer Night's Murder by Niall O'Brien (National Tour 2017) and 'Twas the Night Before Murder by Niall O'Brien (National Tour 2016).
