Inspired by our home in the West of Ireland, Moonfish is a collaborative ensemble that blends our rich culture of language, story-telling, music and dance with theatrical languages such as puppetry, interactive technology and movement to create exhilarating experiences that challenge and excite our audiences.
In 2013 Moonfish were awarded the Stewart Parker Trust / BBC Northern Ireland Irish Language Theatre award for our acclaimed production, Tromluí Phinocchio/ Pinocchio - A Nightmare, which premièred at the Dublin Fringe Festival before touring Ireland. Moonfish adapted Joseph O'Connor's novel Star of the Sea in 2014. This premiered at the Galway International Arts Festival 2014 to huge acclaim, and has subsequently toured nationally twice and internationally to the US in 2017.
In 2016 Moonfish developed Pop-Up Worlds as part of our tenure as Theatre Artists in Residence at The Riverbank Arts Centre. Pop-Up Worlds is an immersive theatre piece that combines pop-up paper technology and sensor technology. In 2017 it toured nationally and internationally to the egg theatre, Bath, as part of their Schools Without Walls project. In 2021, the Moonfish Theatre Ensemble devised an audio drama for RTÉ Jnr called 'Into the World Within'.
Tá Moonfish lonnaithe in Iarthar na hÉireann, áit a spreagann an chomhchóir chun cultúr ár dteanga, ár scéalaíochta, ár gceol agus ár ndamhsa a nascadh le teangacha amharclannaíochta ar nós puipeadóireacht, teicneolaíocht céadfach agus gluaiseacht chun eispéireisí fuinnimheacha agus dúshlánacha a chruthú dár lucht féachana.
I 2013 bronnadh an dúis Stewart Parker Trust/ BBC NI Drámaíocht i nGaeilge ar Moonfish dár léiriú molta Tromluí Phinocchio/ Pinocchio - A Nightmare a chuireadh ar stáiste ar dtús le linn an bhFéile Fringe BÁC agus a chuaigh ar camhchúirt náisiúnta ina dhiaidh sin.

D’oscail Star of the Sea i bhFéile Idirnáisiúnta Ealaíne na Gaillimhe, áit ar tharraing sé ard-mholadh ó lucht féachana agus léarmheastóirí araon. Ó shin tá Star of the Sea théis dul ar camchúirt náisiúnta faoi dhó agus ar camchúirt idirnáisiúnta go dtí na Stáit Aontaithe i 2017.
I 2016 chruthaigh Moonfish Pop-Up Worlds mar chuid dár dtréimhse lonnaithe ealaíne in Ionad Ealaíne an Riverbank. Is píosa amharclannaíochta tomthach é Pop-Up Worlds a mheascann teicneolaíocht preab-in-airde pháipéir le teicneolaíocht céadfach. Moonfish have always aimed to reach as wide and diverse an audience as possible. We believe that theatre is an important cultural asset which should be accessible to all. Our first production, Bonny & Read, premiered in Galway in 2006 and toured to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2007. Since then, almost every production has toured nationally. Past productions The Secret Garden and Tromluí Phinocchio/ Pinocchio - A Nightmare toured around Ireland in 2011 and 2013 respectively. Our production of Star of the Sea premiered in the Galway International Arts Festival in 2014 has since toured nationally and internationally. Pop-Up Worlds, a Moonfish immersive theatre piece for children has twice toured Ireland and toured to the UK in 2017.
