PROGRAMMING POLICY

Established in 1957, Dublin Theatre Festival is an annual event that brings together artists, theatre-makers and audiences from Ireland and around the world. The festival currently takes place over 18 days from the final Thursday in September to the second Saturday in October. At the heart of the festival is the city of Dublin – its people and its stories – and a commitment to contributing to the vibrant social and cultural life of our capital. The spirit of the festival lies in the people who engage with us as dedicated friends or curious spectators, and we welcome and value the participation of all our artists, audiences and guests. We aim to present a festival that captures the imagination of Dublin’s citizens and nurtures a sense of connection and community in the city. We support Irish theatre artists in creating work of high quality, bringing world-class theatre to Dublin audiences and provide a platform to showcase the best of Irish theatre to the world. Through our work and the work of our presenting companies and partners we continue to grow Dublin Theatre Festival’s reputation as one of the world’s greatest theatre festivals. Throughout the festival performances take place in venues and locations across the city. Our programme incorporates theatre, music, dance and family events as well as artist talks, public discussions and artist development programmes. We present classic drama by celebrated companies and artists alongside work by exciting, emerging theatre-makers from home and abroad.
