The Holland Festival is the trend-setting performing arts festival in the Netherlands since 1947, annually presenting exceptional work at an international level. The Festival has an illustrious history, with every artistic director taking it in new directions that have again and again made the Festival a renowned event for over sixty years.
Since 2005, artistic director Pierre Audi has taken the Holland Festival back to its roots: a mix of all the performing arts, a mix of big names and daring experiments. Pierre Audi, like the Festival’s first artistic director and pioneer Peter Diamond, wants to present quality that the Dutch public cannot experience anywhere else.
Audi offers the public a ‘kaleidoscopic window on the world’. Music theatre and music are at the heart of the programme, with Western and non-Western art forms going hand in hand. Besides the performing arts (theatre, music theatre, dance, opera and music) there is plenty of room for the visual arts, literature and architecture. All aspects, colours and flavours of aesthetics are given attention and elbow room.
